Thomasian Goodwill Games is back with volleyball and basketball tournaments for all colleges and faculties of the University.

After a three-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions, the Thomasian Goodwill Games finally returned this year. The sports events commenced on November 8, and were held at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion (QPav).

In his opening remarks, UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics Director Rev. Fr. Rodel Cansancio said that the tournament is dedicated to express the diversity and profound significance of sports.

"The Thomasian Goodwill Games is a testament to the commitment to diversity in sports and the greatness of sports on so many levels," he said.

The tournament features volleyball and basketball events.

To formally launch the Goodwill Games, an opening ceremony was held where the CoS Men’s team and Senior High School Women's Volleyball Team bagged the Early Bird Award. The College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, with their sea-of-bubbles entrance meanwhile, clinched the Best Gimmick Award.

So far, the College of Science (CoS) Men’s Volleyball Team has played against the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) and College of Rehabilitation Sciences (CRS) in Pool D.

CoS Women’s Volleyball Team will vie for the quarterfinals against College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD), College of Commerce and Business Administration (Commerce), and CRS in Pool B.

All matches will be held at the P. Noval Court after the tournament openers in QPav.

CoS Scigers

The Scigers failed to book a ticket to advance in the quarterfinals after the CRS trounced them in straight sets 25-14, 25-21 last November 11.

Earlier, the CoS Scigers dropped their Goodwill Games volleyball tournament opener with the CICS Men's Team demolishing the Scigers in straight sets, 25-19, 25-14.

CoS Scigresses

Meanwhile, Scigresses survived their match against CFAD to claim their first win of the tournament 25-19, 25-22 last November 9.

The Scigresses had a 24-19 advantage in the second canto, but CFAD retaliated with a 3-0 run. Team Captain Stefi Uang answered with a cross-court kill to seal the victory.

Sophia Umlas led her team to victory as she fanned out eight excellent sets to feed her heavy hitters.

Uang had a team-high 5 points, while Katrina Royong and Lizzie Dela Rosa added 4 and 3 markers, respectively.

CoS’ Head Coach Sophia Dalumpines delivered an all-to-play match for the team to gain confidence in the next game.

The Scigresses will have a head-to-head matchup against the CRS team on Nov. 14 at the same venue.
