The University of Santo Tomas College of Science Commission on Elections (CS-COMELEC) has announced the year-round registration for new political parties, a pivotal initiative that aims to boost student participation in governance. This effort encourages forming new student-led political parties while fostering a healthy discourse within the university.

According to CS COMELEC Chairperson Mary Margarette Zafra, the initiative arises from the need to diversify ideologies and platforms in student politics. As Zafra emphasized during the PULSO: Aktiboto 1.0 forum, political parties should not only represent the concerns of the student body, but also inspire meaningful debate and engagement. By providing opportunities for students to voice their political ideas, they seek to keep student leadership dynamic and relevant to the community’s evolving needs.

The opening of the political party registration aligns with the goals of the recent PULSO: Aktiboto 1.0 forum which underscored the importance of student involvement in politics. With the elections fast approaching, CS COMELEC encourages both new political parties and independent candidates to take part in shaping the future of student governance.

As Zafra reminded the attendees, “Know the job and learn what to do, but finding the passion to serve and the determination are what will drive you as a student leader.”
