“Thomasians can be grateful even for difficulties like negativity and hatred,” said UST College of Science Regent Rev. Fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P. during the third college monthly mass, which coincided with the celebration of the feast of St. John Paul II, last October 22 at the Santisimo Rosario Parish.

Fr. Coronel’s sermon centered on faith and perseverance, encouraging the community to rise above setbacks with persistence. “Kung ikaw ay [nadapa] ng tatlong beses, bumangon ka nang apat na beses,” said Fr. Coronel.

He also reflected on life as a pilgrimage — a journey that calls for unwavering faith.”We can be holy in the days we are present to be holy,” he added.

Fr. Coronel commended the students’ youthful passion for reading scriptures and leading the novena before the mass — highlighting St. John Paul II’s connection to youth as the patron for World Youth Day.

Fr. Coronel also discussed the late Pope’s call of how the community can keep themselves away from hatred and negativity by remaining open to the love of God.

He concluded the homily by encouraging the students to turn to prayer even through the smallest, most difficult moments of life, and remain faithful to the Lord. Quoting St. John Paul II, “Open wide the doors to Christ”.
