The College of Science Journal interviewed the College of Science Student Council President, Ms. Julianne Jesh Villena, about this year's Science Week:

Q: What can the students expect this Science Week?

A: A lot! As in, a lot talaga. There are so many new things in store for this year’s Science Week — from the painting exhibit, food bazaar (which is the first ever to happen during Science Week, by the way!), the comeback of the Science pageant (which is inspired by the Search for the Science Youth Ambassador), and many more! This year, with MEOOWS’ Theme, “Open Science,” we wanted to ensure that Science is open for all. Syempre, gusto natin always leveled up version of the past Science Weeks, and this year’s MEOOWS just shows na may ika-lelevel up pa. Both the faculty, staff, and student organizers are really prepared for this, so I just hope and pray that everyone enjoys every bit of it.

Q: What advocacies and messages should the Science community remember for the week?

A: I do believe na very timely ng theme natin ngayon. It’s a simple message: Open Science just means that Science will always be for the people, by the people. I know that “open” is such a broad term, but I guess that’s just its beauty, since andami ring nae-equate to Science. For me, naman, I see it as a way of breaking the stigma na Science, and the people in this field are intimidating. “Open Science” goes to show na it can be for everyone, no matter the background — which yun naman ‘yung aim ng buong College of Science community, to welcome everyone and introduce them in our world that it’s all not about the technical terms and theories in Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, and Psychology; that Science can be enjoyable and definitely one for the books, too!
