Sacrifice

by Icelle Rhain Bicol

Like a color I cannot wear
and an emotion I cannot bear,
there was a pain that my head and heart shared.

It ate me piece by piece
yet you never realized something was amiss.
To you, was I as shallow as this?

So maybe you should have seen it coming,
the moment I thought your heart was worth breaking.
I apologize for cowardly scheming.

I swear I never told you lies.
But surely, you could have surmised.
You had to be my sacrifice.
