The UST College of Science (CoS) held its fourth monthly mass in honor of the Feast Day of St. Albert the Great, the patron saint of the college, on November 15 at the Santisimo Rosario Parish.
CoS Regent Rev. Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. presided over the celebration, where he enjoined the Science community to “remain in love” in all their endeavors, even through challenges.
“Tayong lahat na nasa College of Science must always be in love and remain in love in everything that we do… and we share our talents in order for us [to share the good news with everyone],” he said.
He reminded the community to remain in love despite heartaches, citing St. Albert the Great as an example.
“Probably, meron din siyang heartaches, probably meron ding experiments na natagalan [siyang gawin], probably meron din siyang [bashers]… meron din siyang heartaches sa buhay kahit na siya ay very talented.”
Fr. Coronel emphasized that St. Albert’s greatness was not just because of his remarkable intellect, but also his ability to persist in love.
“Kaya siya tinawag na ‘the Great’ is because he admitted his weaknesses and remained faithful until the end,” he added. “Kaya manatiling nagmamahal kahit nasasaktan, tulad ni St. Albert the Great. Siya siguro’y naging ‘great’ because he remained in love.”
The regent also shared with the Thomasian scientists that to be a “total package,” one must reconcile faithfulness with excellence in science, just as St. Albert the Great did. He described the saint as the “wisest of the saints and most saintly of the wise.”
The celebration also served as a thanksgiving for the recent passers of the Chemists and Chemical Technicians Licensure Exams held last October 14 to 16. The mass concluded with a special blessing for November birthday celebrants.
