ICYMI: Math and Physics Reigns Palarong Agham 2024 Ball Games
By: Tobey Fhar Isaac Calayo
Annually, the College of Science, in honor of its Science Week, organizes the prestigious Palarong Agham – an inter-departmental competition that showcases the athletic prowess of our students and faculty. The event features a range of games including Larong Pinoy, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball, and Men’s Volleyball, with special exhibition matches from our esteemed alumni, current faculty members, and the Goodwill team of the college.
Last Palarong Agham 2024, the Department of Psychology and Chemistry’s Women’s Volleyball Team, led by their team captain, Allycel Korrinne De Leon, won over Biology in the finals match-up, securing their championship for the category, while the Department of Math and Physics dominated over Biology in Men’s Basketball, led by their team captain Shann Don Macatangay. Their Men’s Volleyball Team also successfully defended their championship from last year with team captain Reginald Rex Dupaya.
.
The College of Science Journal was able to interview this year’s Team Captain of the two-peat Men’s Volleyball Champion, Mr. Reginald Dupaya from the Department of Math and Physics.
1. How did the Math and Physics Men's Volleyball Team prepare to defend the championship from last year's CoSPlay
Training lang nang training, kase mag-iimprove ka naman talaga if you practice well and nag participate ka. Also I let my teammates decide kung saan nila gusto pumwesto; they have the freedom for that and we would play around that nalang, so from there you would know the mistakes and yung weaknesses ng each player and ng team which ang weakness namin ay ang depensa. So ang main focus lang namin ay depensa throughout the trainings, yun lang ang hinahasa namin and also communication. Hindi kami nag focus sa offense kasi hindi aangat ang bola kung hindi dedepensa.
2. What is your takeaway from leading and encouraging a group in a competitive setting?
Best takeaway from leading the group is dapat may bonding kayo hindi lang inside the court pero pati outside. Second is as a captain dapat minemake sure mo na your teammates know the goal, dapat same lang kayo ng goal, and that is to win and syempre to enjoy. I think the way na naencourage ko sila is looking at our past games like last year na we really formed a bond with each other kaya kapang kapa na namin ang isa't isa sa court.
I would like to thank my teammates (Applied Physics, Applied Math and Data Science) because we did it! And for pushing me to surpass my limits and unlock other potentials. Love lots and let's do it again next year!
