Lines with no meaning, an ode to nothing and everything all the same.

By: Tapaya

“If…there was another life where we weren’t the people we are today,”

A pause. A breathe in.

“Would you have fallen in love with me?”

Silence mused and danced in the winds around them.

Perhaps it was pity that noticed no breaths left afterwards.

“Well… I think I would’ve fallen in love with you, as I have in this universe, and then I would have eventually fallen out of love the same way I did here.”

Tension. Silence was howling at his misfortune.

“…do you regret it?”

“Heavens, no. The stars may be bright, but they will eventually fade. I had never once regretted falling in love with you.”

“Then why?”

“I loved you even before you realized you loved me. Funny, isn’t it? I caught wind of your love before you even breathed its air.”

It’d take a while before he realized their love was doomed. Born from vengeance and left to rot with a scar.

He was always so volatile, from when he awoke in a lonesome house, slowly built a new life with those he trusted, forced to kill them, and then some more.

Storm-driven anger flooded his heart and drowned out everything that could have survived.

“I’m sorry…”

“You have nothing to be sorry for, my dear. This was simply how the wind blew.”

He hadn’t meant to, but he can’t change the choices he has already made. Time travel, a different universe, or even another version of reality, he was still bound to hurt him.

And so, true to his words, the present winds blew harshly into his eyes and sprung tears he had not shed that fateful day.
