Performing groups of the University showcase their respective talents in various performances during the Roarientation.

805 freshmen from the College of Science (CoS) officially began their Thomasian journey as they participated in the University’s annual Welcome Mass and ROARientation at the Quadricentennial Pavilion, and the Thomasian Welcome Walk at the Arch of the Centuries last August 5, 2023.

The CoS’ Freshmen Week 2023, entitled “Flower, Gleam, and Glow: Let Your Power SCIne!” welcomed the freshmen with the return of onsite activities such as BLOCKamustahan, which engaged them in fun-filled experiences to get to know the Thomasian culture and each other.

Campus tours were held to orient the students about the University’s buildings and facilities. College-based student organizations also promoted their respective committees in preparation for the upcoming recruitment season.

During the Welcoming Mass, UST Vice-Rector Fr. Isaias D. Tiongco, O.P., J.C.D. encouraged the freshmen to do something unique as they create fruitful, memorable, and enriching endeavors as members of the Thomasian community.

“Everything great that is accomplished happens because someone took a chance,” he said.

This year’s ROARientation with the theme “Dream Beyond Seeing” featured performances from the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and UST Yellow Jackets, along with other performing clubs from various colleges, which culminated with the roaring “Go USTe!” chant.

Teatro Tomasino presented a play about navigating college life, which provided clues for the various games held throughout the event. TikTok clips of different hashtags about college life were also presented as part of the Thomasian Challenge.

UST’s UAAP Season ’85 players were also recognized for the championship wins in their respective sports event.

The latter parts of the event featured the recital of the Thomasian Code of Honor to formally accept the responsibility of being a Thomasian and a batch dance mob performed to the tune of NewJeans’ “Super Shy”.

The ROARientation was followed by the Welcome Walk where each college in the university, representing their creative colors and themes, walked through the Arch as a traditional rite of passage..

The Thomasian Welcome Party was also held throughout the night, headlined by P-pop groups BINI and BGYO, with special performances by Thomasian artists Anton Stefano and JC Herrero.

The Welcome Walk and other freshmen rites were initially scheduled on August 3, Thursday, but were postponed due to inclement weather.
