College of Science Freshmen Take a Tour Around UST
Interview by: Jachelle Linantud and Gwyneth Agatha San Antonio
A new batch of freshmen from the College of Science took their first steps into university life with a campus tour during this year’s Freshie Week. From the historic architecture of the lecture halls to the modern laboratories, these new students are getting a first-hand look at the places where they’ll challenge the boundaries of knowledge.
As they walk the paths of the Thomasian Scientists that came before, these fresh faces are already thinking critically, connecting with their peers, and having fun. Each corner of the campus holds new opportunities and discoveries, setting the stage for exciting adventures that await.
On their way back to the Main Building, we caught up with some of them, and here is what they had to say. Welcome to your new home, Freshies!

How would you describe the campus vibe?
Very cozy, nature, and historical, except sa laboratory na very sketchy. What’s the one spot on campus you’re most excited to hang out in?
Carpark talaga, library kasi study first.[“Bakit library?”]
Siyempre, aral aral din. What are you looking forward to the most now that you are Thomasians?
Sa laboratory, aesthetic daw kami.
Strawb and K — 1P2
How would you describe the campus vibe?
The vibe is sosyal (K), parang aesthetic na old and aged (S), nung nakapasok ako sa Main Building, very antique yung vibes (K).What’s the one spot on campus you’re most excited to hang out in?
What are you looking forward to the most now that you are Thomasians?
For me, I came here to study. What about outside the acads?”]
Jonvic Tabernilla, Avery Mendoza, Jerard Dancel — 1CHEM2
How would you describe the campus vibe?
It’s giving nature na very fresh. Ang sarap magpalamig palagi, and ‘pag stressed ka pwede ka mag-[pahinga] (A). Sa akin naman, yung binibigay na vibe is more on vintage. Yung architecture naa-appreciate ko talaga, lalo na since it’s very pleasing and aesthetic (JT). For me naman po, the vibe that it gave me is, I finally found my way home (JD).What’s the one spot on campus you’re most excited to hang out in?
For me po, sa may Lover’s Lane kasi sobrang hangin, ‘wag lang tumaas yung tirik ng araw (JD). For me, sa carpark kasi maraming kainan (A). For me, sa botanical garden, na walang kasama, ayoko ng kasama.[“Anong gagawin mo doon?”]
Titingnan ko yung mga butterfly. Dati nagsisimba kami, and before magsimba, dumadaan kami sa botanical garden (JT).What are you looking forward to the most now that you are Thomasians?
Syempre, yung Welcome Walk (JD). For me, meeting new people, making new friends, gaining new experiences, learning new lessons (A).

How would you describe the campus vibe?
The campus is very welcoming. (All) You can actually see the history, and so far, the campus has been surprisingly very open to new students (M). Because I came from a different school, [I think] it’s environmentally friendly [and from] what I’ve noticed about the students since I came from Ateneo, the students are very kind and not judgemental at all (Z). Same lang din po, the school is very welcoming. The first thing I saw was the architecture since Icame from an arts school, and [that’s why] I’m used to seeing different layouts of schools and stuff. I’m amazed by UST’s school layout (D).What’s the one spot on campus you’re most excited to hang out in?
I’m most excited about the Grandstand because of the Paskuhan event. I haven’t attended any Paskuhan, so I’m really excited about that (Z). For me, I’m excited about the library because they had good expectations when they were describing the place (M). QPav! trainee po ako ng Salinggawi and ayun nga po, aircon din doon and mahilig din ako mangdocument ng mga events nila (D).What are you looking forward to the most now that you are Thomasians?
December’s Paskuhan! I wanna see how UST handles Paskuhan. The Christmas spirit in UST is the brightest out of all the [other] universities (Yeah, it’s very different!). Paskuhan is very famous.Extra Question (“For this school year’s coming Paskuhan, which artists are you most looking forward to?”)
BINI! Tapos na ba? We had them last year, but what if? What if! and Rob Deniel.
